1st storey: chapel 1S

Temple devoted to bCom ldan ’das Thub pa chen po (Bhagavan Mahāmuni). The central image of painted stucco represents Śākyamuni, gilded, seated in bhadrāsana in the attitude of preaching the law (dharmacakramudrā), flanked by Śāriputra and Maudgalyāyana and the eight Buddhas of Medicine (Sman bla). To the right of the triad: a statue of Sangs rgyas sMan gyi bla Bai durya ’i ’od kyi rgyal po (the Buddha of Medicine Bhaiṣajyaguru). To the left of the triad: the statue of mTshan legs yongs bsgrags dpal gyi rgyal po (Suparikīrtitanāmaśrīrāja). The frescoes originally represented the cycle of the Sman bla/Bhaiṣajyaguru, that of the Prajñāpāramitā, the sixteen Arhats: according to the calculations of the eulogy: 121 figures in all.
