Bāmiyān 38m Buddha niche ceiling east
The side panels are located around the head of the 38m high Buddha. The frame of this arrangement is a balcony with embroidered rugs hanging over it. The east side consists, as well as the west side, of eleven figures; donors and three seated Buddhas of which two are crowned. The donors are royal figures and as such they all, except for one, wear crowns, dresses and jewelry. These motifs are found on paintings, coins and silver objects with representations of Sassanian, eastern Iranian royalty or Central Asian princely images. Only the donor figure in the north is depicted as a bearded monk in profile, offering a bowl-shaped object to the crowned Buddha and holding a stupa in his left hand.
