4th storey: chapel 4NE
Chapel devoted to the Indian paṇḍitas and Tibetan translators, placed in the N-E corner of the sKu ’bum.
SW-wall: Statues of Śāntarakṣita (mKhan po Bodhisattva, center, ?-797) (groundplan No. 1), flanked by Ācārya Padma (Padmasambhava) to his right (groundplan No. 1a) and Kamalaśīla, to his left (groundplan No. 1a’), S-wall: Statue of Rin chen bzang po (958-1055) (groundplan No. 1b); W-wall: Statue of rNgog Lo tsā ba Blo ldan shes rab (1059-1109) (groundplan No. 1b’); N-wall: Painted Śāntigarbha (groundplan No. 2). A caption identifies the other large figure painted on the same N-wall as the ācārya Buddhaguhya (740-802) (groundplan No. 3). E-wall: A painted caption identifies the translator Lo tsā ba dKa’ ba dPal brtsegs (groundplan No. 4). The dkar chag informs us that the other figures include Thon mi Sambhota and Ka Cog, an abbreviation of the names of the two above mentioned famous translators of the monarchic period: Ka ba dPal brtsegs and Klu’i rgyal mtshan of Cog ro.
